María Caride Delgado

I am a Social Educator and Projects Officer at the NGO Solidaridad Internacional de Galicia. I work in the organisation’s Global Citizenship Education Department.

My work focuses primarily on promoting Global Citizenship Education, both in the formal sector (across all educational stages) and the non-formal sector, as well as on generating collaborations and synergies with various institutions and organisations whose aim is social and political transformation towards a critical, empowered and emancipated global citizenship.

From within NGOs, we are aware that it is fundamental to move towards inter-institutional collaborative working practices, in which each entity assumes a distinct role, in line with its potential, but which allows us to provide comprehensive, joint responses to the complexities of today’s society. This is why I believe that having profiles like mine, which are outside academia and closer to action, also adds value to the ECIGAL research group.

About me

I hold a Diploma in Social Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychopedagogy from the University of A Coruña. I also hold a Diploma of Advanced Studies from the doctoral programme in ‘Innovation and Educational Research’ in the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics of the Experimental Sciences at the University of A Coruña. Since 2005, I have been an education projects officer at Solidariedade Internacional de Galicia. Throughout these years of experience and job security, my work within the organisation has focused primarily on the management and coordination of all kinds of global citizenship education initiatives (design, formulation, implementation, evaluation and justification of activities and projects).

I have experience as a speaker, trainer and organiser of conferences and seminars on Global Citizenship Education. In addition to my professional practice in the field of Education, I also actively participate in other areas promoted by the organisation, such as Fair Trade, Social Participation and Development Cooperation.

My research experience dates back to my doctoral studies, and since 2013 I have collaborated in the organisation’s research department, thanks to work carried out with the University of A Coruña and the University of Santiago, always linked to Global Citizenship Education and transformative pedagogies.

As a social educator, I am oriented towards cooperating in the generation of social alternatives and projects that contribute to the creation and implementation of strategies aimed at global justice.
To this end, I like to start from two maxims that I try to apply at all times, both professionally and personally: “Shared responsibility. Or, in other words, think globally and act locally” and “maintain consistency between thinking, feeling and doing”. I believe both help me to keep what is important in sight.
