The OCV called for a new edition of the UDC Awards for Final Degree and Master’s Degree Projects (TFM) in Development Cooperation last November. This initiative aims to contribute to local and global transformation by promoting studies and projects that help to better understand practices focused on sustainable human development in the region, as well as to raise awareness and understanding of global challenges.
This year, the runner-up prize was awarded to Eloi Fernández Ramos, a student on the Social Education degree who was supervised by María Barba from the ECIGAL research group. He focused his exploration on understanding the relevance of the epistemologies of the South in Education for Development and Global Citizenship in Galicia, through the perspective of technical staff from NGOs.
As Eloi himself points out:
“The Epistemologies of the South validate and visibilise the knowledge that has historically been oppressed and silenced due to the consolidation of hegemonic Western thought globally since the colonial era.
In this paper, the results obtained through two qualitative research techniques, the group interview and the discussion group, are analysed. These concern the notions and the vision that the organisations working in Education for Development and Global Citizenship in Galicia, which are part of the Galician Coordinator of NGOs, hold about these forms of knowledge, also examining how they incorporate them into their educational practice. Furthermore, the study adopts a more holistic view of the International Cooperation sector from a deeply critical perspective“.
We congratulate Eloi on their contribution and look forward to continuing to collaborate on what is a key area of interest for the ECIGAL group: the advancement towards a decolonial ECG.
