Training with Mother Courage at the ECG Conference

As part of the 8th Global Citizenship Education Days, which we are organising between the ECIGAL Group of the University of A Coruña (UdC) and International Solidarity, we will run a workshop for teachers and professionals from organisations on strategies for integrating Global Citizenship Education (GCED) into the curriculum. It will be facilitated by Madre Coraje. Specifically, we will have Javier Saborido, Education Projects Officer for the NGO Madre Coraje, at its Jerez de la Frontera branch.
And why did we choose Madre Coraje to train us?
The NGO Madre Coraje seems to us the most suitable to deliver this workshop due to its extensive track record in research and teacher training in harmonising ECG with the curriculum. Thus, in 2011 they launched a four-year research project with a group of specialists from the “Foro por otra escuela” at the University of Seville. A process that was fundamental to understanding the school’s specific language and analysing the official curriculum, identifying competencies, content and indicators related to ECG. In 2015, they continued this line of work through the “Cycles for Improving Teaching Practice with an ECG Focus”, funded by the ACI, with which they trained teachers to incorporate ECG into educational activities and also supported them in the design and implementation of educational proposals for schools and classrooms. Furthermore, their work on creating an ‘Attitude Change Evaluation Tool’ is of interest, especially given that the assessment of learning is a frequent shortcoming in the ECG projects developed in schools.
