About me
A Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy from the University of Santiago (specialising in Educational Intervention) and a PhD in Psychopedagogy from the University of A Coruña, with a thesis entitled “Environmental Education Facilities in Galicia: Analysis of the Reality and Proposals for Quality Criteria”. I currently teach on the Faculty of Education at the University of A Coruña, in subjects related to environmental education, heritage interpretation, sustainable development and environmental ethics.
Even before completing my degree, I began working at a farm school in Granada, an experience that shaped my professional life and my academic and research interests. In addition to working in facilities such as farm schools, nature classrooms and urban ecology classrooms, I was Head of University Extension at the CEIDA for ten years.
Having the opportunity to travel and work in various Latin American and Portuguese-speaking countries has allowed me to meet and collaborate with professionals from different continents. At present, my closest academic ties are with Brazil, through the GPEA at the Federal University of Mato Grosso and colleagues at the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of Paraná.
I run the environmental magazine, sustainABLY (Revista científica galego-lusófona de educación ambiental) since its inception in 2006, it has been a commitment to research, critical reflection and the dissemination of experiences from minority native languages such as Galician and Portuguese.
Currently, the lines of research are more focused on communicating climate change and on the contribution of education to mitigating, adapting to and resisting change (through GPEA and Resclima), as well as on education for global citizenship (through ECIGAL). I have also collaborated with the current PAEAS (Plan de Acción de Educación Ambiental para la Sostenibilidad do Ministerio de Transición Ecolóxica). The latest publications include the chapter on equipment for environmental education in the study directed by Javier Benayas and Carmelo Marcén (2019) Hacia una Educación para la Sostenibilidad. 20 años después del Libro Blanco de la Educación Ambiental, or chapter on equipment and climate change in the book edited by Ivo Dickmann and Luciane Cortiano Liotti (2020) Educaçåo Ambiental crítica. Experiências e vivências; articles on how climate change is addressed in textbooks in magazines such as Documentación Social, ambientalMENTEsustentable, Cuadernos de Pesquisa: educational thinking or the Revista Brasileira de Ensino Meio. On global citizenship education, I would highlight the publication coordinated by Renée DePalma (2020), to which I contributed several chapters, La educación para el desarrollo y la ciudadanía global: Una experiencia de investigación-acción participativa
